Hydrogen Sourcebook Work Group Meets at NHA Conference

By Jim Ohi, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

The Working Group preparing the Sourcebook for Hydrogen Applications met on the evening of March 3 and 4 to review comments received from peer reviewers of Draft 1 of the Sourcebook. The Sourcebook is a joint effort by Canadian and U.S. experts to compile prevailing practices and applicable codes, standards, guidelines, and regulations for the safe use of hydrogen. The effort is funded jointly by Natural Resources Canada (NRC) through the Hydrogen Research Institute (HRI) at the University of Québec and by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The Sourcebook is sponsored jointly by the Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) and the National Hydrogen Association (NHA). Meeting arrangements were made by Karen Miller of the NHA.

The members of the Working Group are: Addison Bain (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, retired), John A. Barclay (University of Victoria), Tapan K. Bose (University of Québec), Frederick J. Edeskuty (Edeskuty Engineering, Los Alamos National Laboratory, retired), Matthew J. Fairlie (Stuart Energy Systems, Inc.), James G. Hansel (Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.), D. Robert Hay (Tektrend International, Inc.), Michael R. Swain (University of Miami).

Jim Ohi and Cathy Gregoire-Padro of NREL, who support the Working Group, and Heidi Barnes, one of the peer reviewers, were also present, as were Bob Maruo, Karen Miller, and Tapan Bose. At the meeting, the Working Group determined how comments received from the peer reviewers will be incorporated into Draft 2, which will be submitted to the Board of Directors of the NHA and the CHA for review and approval. A final draft will be prepared and presented at the World Hydrogen Energy Conference in June. Sale and distribution of the Sourcebook will be handled by Tektrend International, Inc.
