The Second Annual H2U Design Contest is off and running!  To date, over a dozen teams have officially registered representing the U.S., Canada and Russia.  Additionally, over 300 students from 100 schools in 19 countries around the world have indicated interest in the contest.  Interest has more than doubled from the 2004 competition and with much more international attention.

The contest theme for this year is: Hydrogen Power Parks.  Power parks address the need for back-up power, grid load reduction, distributed power generation and/or hydrogen dispensing.  Power parks don’t have a set definition, but they often utilize some or all of the above components.  Teams will be asked to design a hydrogen power park for operation between 2010 and 2020.

The team that wins the grand prize will present their power park design during a plenary session at the NHA Annual Hydrogen Conference 2005, along with a $5000 stipend to cover airfare, meals, and incidental expenses during the trip.  The competition will also cover the cost of the hotel rooms of team participants.  Four other teams will receive honorable mentions.  Their designs, along with the grand prize-winning team’s design will be available in the Final Conference Proceedings.

NHA member universities are highly encouraged to enter the contest, and there is still time!  All registrations and design entries are due by January 14, 2005.  For a complete set of rules and guidelines, along with registration information, please visit the H2U Design Contest website at www.HydrogenContest.org. ©2005.
