The
opening of the NextEnergy Center in Detroit, Mich. marked the culmination of intense
effort by countless people who turned a few words spoken by the state's political
leadership earlier this decade into the practical reality of NextEnergy.
Located
at the center of Detroit's TechTown, NextEnergy is creating a world center of
excellence for education, research, development and manufacturing that will position
both Detroit and Michigan as the focal point of the emerging alternative energy
industry. NextEnergy's partners and research tenants operating in the facility's
accelerator laboratories will help shape this future.
The following tenants
specialize in hydrogen-based research:
- REB Research & Consulting
makes hydrogen purifiers and membrane reactors for fuel cell generation, delivering
nearly 100-percent pure hydrogen from liquid fuels like methanol and water or
from liquid ammonia. The membrane reactors are used to generate ultrapure hydrogen
for fuel cells and other applications efficiently from liquid fuels like methanol,
water and liquid ammonia. REB also offers consulting on all areas of hydrogen
extraction, purification generation and transport, design and testing services.
- Millennium Cell develops hydrogen battery technology through
a patented chemical process that safely stores and delivers hydrogen energy to
power portable devices. The borohydride-based technology can be scaled to fit
any application requiring high energy density for a long run time in a compact
space.
- Southwest Research Institute specializes in the creation
and transfer of technology in engineering and the physical sciences. It comprises
11 technical divisions, including research on fuels (e.g. hydrogen), vehicles
and applied physics.
Other tenants include:
- NanoScience Engineering
Corporation
- Alternative Power Supply
- Nextek Power Systems
- Titan Energy Development
- Biodiesel Industries
- Biomass
Energy Solutions
- Select Engineering Services (SES)
Designed
for the convergence of automotive, electric power and defense applications into
a singular, advanced knowledge base, NextEnergy has positioned itself and its
tenants to be at the forefront of global Alternative Energy Technology research
and development.
